What Other 2014 Movie Needs a Sequel?

Posted: 04 Feb 2015 11:00 PM PST

Now that we know there's a John Wick sequel in the works, is there anything more we could ever hope for? Maybe sequels to more of our favorite movies of 2014. The thing is, a lot of the most popular releases of last year already were sequels or parts of larger franchises with more on the way. And we already know there are follow-ups in the works for The Lego Movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, Godzilla, Ride Along, Ouija and maybe even Gone Girl. What else is there? Among the box office hits, a few of the big titles aren't likely to warrant sequels, namely Interstellar, American Sniper and The Fault in Our Stars, the latter two for obvious reasons. And while fans are apparently wishing for Lucy 2, writer-director Luc Besson has said that's not going to happen...

John Wick - Summit Entertainment - Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD Directors: David Leitch, Chad Stahelski Cast: Keanu Reeves, Adrianne Palicki, Alfie Allen, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters. Full cast + crew John Wick is the best American action movie of 2014, and it only gets better with each and every rewatch. That's super convenient since it hits Blu-ray and DVD this week, meaning you can now devote your entire life to the glorious fun that is John Wick. If you haven't seen it yet, Keanu Reeves stars as a former hit man who comes out of retirement to teach a mobster's dumb son a lesson. And that lesson involves a lot of bullets and a whole lot of dead goons killed in spectacular action scenes. But what really makes the movie so...

See Where Your Favorite Movie and TV Characters Come from with These Cool Maps

Posted: 04 Feb 2015 08:15 PM PST

Where would you guess most fictional characters hail from? Like the entertainment business itself, apparently the most popular and iconic figures in movies and television are from the coasts, with plenty originating in California and New York, specifically near Los Angeles and New York City.  The below infographic maps [via QuizUp] don't represent the whole of cinema and TV, but they do include a good selection of famous favorites, indicating that we at least enjoy protagonists from familiar places. Keep in mind these aren't the settings of the movie and TV stories but the characters' hometowns. Often they're the same place, but not always. For instance, were you aware that Willy Wonka is from NYC?  It's fun to note how two signature Syvlester...

Director's Notebook: The 'John Wick' Directors on Creating "Car Fu"

Posted: 04 Feb 2015 07:20 PM PST

In this monthly column we spotlight new Blu-ray/DVD releases by interviewing directors about the scenes that stood out most for them while making their movies. This month, we talk to directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch about their Keanu Reeves-starring revenge thriller John Wick (on sale now). In a film that’s nonstop action, is it possible to bring a unique look and feel to what’s on-screen and still feed an audience's appetite for thrills? That’s the dilemma Chad Stahelski and David Leitch have been faced with for most of their careers as stunt coordinators and second unit directors for many heralded action-thrillers of the past few decades. By calling the shots in their directorial debut, John Wick, the pair was allowed to step even further...

Today in Movie Culture: Honest 'Lego Movie' Trailer, 'Interstellar' Toys, Kids Reenacting Oscar Nominees, and More

Posted: 04 Feb 2015 06:15 PM PST

Here are a bunch of little bites to satisfy your hunger for movie culture:   Once again, Cinefix reenacted clips from all of the Best Picture nominees with children (via Reddit):   Keeping with that theme, here's a skit from The Tonight Show with Michael Keaton and Jimmy Fallon acting out Birdman scenes written by kids.    This is an image taken of an actual Matthew McConaughey action figure, made for Interstellar by NECA, and there's an Anne Hathaway one, too. Visit Idle Hands to see the rest of the image. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any TARS and CASE toys yet (via Topless Robot).   Speaking of Interstellar, here's proof that its score can...

First 'Poltergeist' Remake Images Give a Classic Callback to the Original Movie

Posted: 04 Feb 2015 05:00 PM PST

Just a few weeks ago Sam Rockwell, who plays the dad in the upcoming Poltergeist remake, revealed that the new version was "more of a kids' movie." This was a red flag for a lot of fans who thought it meant the movie wouldn't be scary, so we promptly reminded everyone that it wasn't necessarily a bad idea. But if you're still convinced it means the movie is doomed, maybe these new pictures will settle your nerves a bit. Director Gil Kenan told USA Today that "The film is super scary. And it's scary on its own terms." And while we assume that means this new take on the story of a family living in a house at the epicenter of a gateway to the Other Side will have plenty of original ideas up its sleeve, we can't forget it's a...

This New Concept Art Reveals What 'Tomorrowland' Looks Like

Posted: 04 Feb 2015 03:40 PM PST

There's not a whole lot we know about the upcoming Disney movie Tomorrowland. We've seen some trailers and learned that it involves a mysterious alternate universe where nothing is impossible -- and we've seen some of that universe -- but the full details of the plot are so far still under wraps. That's for the best, because in a way we should only be enticed by the initial view of that other world, enough to want to visit, and then see where it takes us from there. Maybe we can actually experience things as the main characters, played by George Clooney and Britt Robertson, experience them. That would be fantastic. For now, while we continue to get small pieces to what the movie entails, it's still pretty much only glimpses from the starting line. The...
