Want to See a Four-Hour Version of 'Cloud Atlas'? Netflix's Ted Sarandos Says It "Will Blow You Away"

Posted: 10 Feb 2015 08:30 PM PST

Whatever you think of Jupiter Ascending as a whole, there's no denying that the movie has spectacular visuals. That means if you're going to see it, you're best off seeing it on a big screen while you can. That's been the case for most of the Wachowskis' movies, which is why it's been a shame that the sibling filmmakers haven't had a lot of luck at the box office in recent years. Now they're heading to Netflix for the series Sense8, and while they're sure to find an audience there, viewers are limited to only ever seeing this effort on the small screen. Better than nothing, right? And it is great that Netflix is sort of saving the Wachowskis right now, even if the series was in the works long before Jupiter failed to ascend in...

Posted: 10 Feb 2015 07:06 PM PST

Update 2/10/15: Neill Blomkamp is making the press rounds for Chappie right now, and now he's saying that the below Alien movie could actually happen. According to him, Fox is eager to jump on the project, and that now the ball is in his court to decide if he wants to do it. Previously: 1/2/15: Director Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) shared some fantastic, unofficial Alien concept art via social media, which he described as "a mental stroll into the world Ridley Scott created." He noted that the art was "done by [an] awesome French concept artist. Developed idea and art, but I don't think I'll make it," adding that it had "nothing to do" with 20th Century Fox, the studio behind the series. Blomkamp even went on to add that the...

Get a Load of What Some of These SXSW Midnight Movies Are About

Posted: 10 Feb 2015 06:00 PM PST

Last week SXSW announced the majority of this year's film festival lineup, and while we have little doubt that in that massive stack of world premieres are more than a handful of great dramas and comedies, the fest left out one crucial chunk of its programming: the midnight movies. Today they announced that lineup (as well as all of the short films), and damn if it doesn't already have us sweating a little bit. Here's a quick rundown of the grizzly topics: - An immortal cannibal played by Henry Rollins. - Sleep paralysis. - Heavy metal fans who accidentally summon evil into their town. - A single mom who gets her science teacher boyfriend to help her fight the ghosts in her house. - A trio of men who make the revolting decision to violate the body of a dead...

See 'Jupiter Ascending' Reviewed in Comic Strip Form

Posted: 10 Feb 2015 03:00 PM PST

Go big or go home. That seems to be the motto of directing duo the Wachowskis, who pulled out all the stops for Jupiter Ascending, their very own space opera, cramming this thing so full of backstory and character history, that it might have been better suited for a dozen novels instead of one two-hour fairy tale. Will it go down as a underrated gem a la Speed Racer? A misunderstood near masterpiece a la Cloud Atlas? Or is it something closer to Star Wars -- particularly the prequel trilogy -- for better or worse?   Previously on Stripped: Dumb and Dumber To, Big Hero 6, Interstellar, Amazing Spider-Man 2, Godzilla, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Edge of Tomorrow, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Guardians of the...

We Answer Your Top 5 Burning Questions About the New Spider-Man

Posted: 10 Feb 2015 01:32 PM PST

Far away from the halls of Comic-Con and in the middle of the night on a random Monday, Marvel Studios made a monster announcement that should prove to be the biggest game changer for the superhero movie genre since Marvel's The Avengers helped create a new mold for the shared cinematic universe: Spider-Man is joining the Marvel cinematic universe.  This is the first time two studios (in this case Sony and Disney) have been able to come to an agreement with regards to sharing a character on the big screen. It's something we expected eventually, but maybe not as soon as July 28, 2017, when the next solo Spider-Man movie will hit theaters, now with Marvel's Kevin Feige heading it up creatively (though Sony still has final say). But Spider-Man will be back on the...
