Marvel Countdown: How Fox Put the "Ultimate" in 'Fantastic Four'

Posted: 03 Feb 2015 11:00 PM PST

You might’ve seen the first trailer for 2015’s Fantastic Four and thought some of the same things we thought; namely, that it doesn’t quite look like the wild and wooly world that Stan Lee and Jack Kirby kicked off the Marvel universe with way back in 1961. It’s a deadly serious trailer, mostly devoid of FX money shots, selling an overall adult tone over the thrills one would expect of the Fantastic Four. At least early on it’s being marketed as a sci-fi film, not a superhero one. Sometimes comic book filmmakers will cite inspiration from a source material that isn’t necessarily evident on the screen. There’s no trace of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns in Batman Forever for instance, though Joel Schumacher tried to spin it...

Interview: Luke Evans on 'Dracula Untold' and the New Cinematic Universe for Monsters

Posted: 03 Feb 2015 08:00 PM PST

Welsh actor Luke Evans fought an epic battle or two on-screen last year. First, he became the latest actor to play the world's most famous vampire in Dracula Untold, a reboot of the Universal Monsters universe that tells the origin story of Dracula based on history's Vlad the Impaler. He then returned as Bard the Bowman in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies to take on the fire-breathing dragon Smaug for one final smackdown. We caught up with the 35-year-old actor as he was doing press in Romania—yes, vampire ground zero—for Dracula Untold, which comes out on Blu-ray and DVD on February 3. Evans sank his teeth into questions about playing Dracula and the character's future on-screen, if we'll see more footage of the Bard in the inevitable The...

One of This Year's Best Actress Nominees Is Cast in the First 'Star Wars' Stand-alone Movie

Posted: 03 Feb 2015 05:34 PM PST

The Star Wars stand-alone movies have been a swirling vortex of mystery and rumors ever since it was unveiled that Disney would be branching out beyond the new, core trilogy. Some said they'd focus on old characters, with Han Solo, Yoda and Boba Fett all getting their own origin story movies. Some have said they'll revisit old events from the original trilogy from a new perspective. But realistically, we don't know much of anything about what's in the movies. That said, today that shroud of secrecy got a little less secret. The Hollywood Reporter has it on good authority that Felicity Jones has landed the highly coveted role of the female lead in the first stand-alone movie, beating out the likes of Rooney Mara and Tatiana Maslany. So between this news and...

New 'Jurassic World' Website Lets You Watch Live Webcams from the Doomed Park

Posted: 03 Feb 2015 03:41 PM PST

Most movie websites are little more than galleries of pictures, wallpapers and trailers. The folks behind Jurassic World, however, has taken things a few steps further. They've recently launched JurassicWorld.com, and they've turned the whole thing into a simulation of what the real website for a real Jurassic World might look like. The online destination has useful things like a meter showing how full the park is, plus real-time updates for how long it'll take to to get in to exhibits, like Gallimimus Valley and the Cretaceous Cruise. And to keep the illusion going even further, you can actually watch live webcam feeds of what's going on all over the park. With just a click, you can peek into the T. rex Paddock or the Hatchery or the line for the...
