Our Most Anticipated 2017 Sci-Fi Movies

Posted: 03 Jan 2017 09:00 PM PST

January Movie of the Month: Split (January 20)  A lot of people talk about M. Night Shyamalan's movies only in the context of twist endings. Rarely do people talk up the fact that his endings only work so well because the lead up to them is so strong and weird and uniquely Shyamalan. The same goes for Split, which we saw (and loved) at Fantastic Fest. We say that not to promise some grand, never-see-it-coming twist, but just to say that Split is classic Shyamalan in the sense that it takes a strange, freaky journey to a destination that is just flat out cool.  The others: Underworld: Blood Wars (January 6) Monster Trucks (January 13) Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (January 27)   February Movie of the...

Sorry Fans, Hugh Jackman Seems Iffy on That 'Deadpool/Wolverine' Movie

Posted: 03 Jan 2017 07:30 PM PST

Will Hugh Jackman come out of Wolverine retirement for one more movie opposite Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool? “I’m hesitating,” Jackman told Variety, “because I could totally see how that’s the perfect fit. But the timing may be wrong.” Whether or not we ever see a Deadpool/Wolverine movie may depend entirely on Jackman. In that same Variety cover story on Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds, he fully admits -- as he has before -- that he wants to square off against Wolverine in a film. However, should that not happen, it's not like they're running out of material. “I would love to play Deadpool for as long as they would let me play Deadpool,” he says. “We have outlines and stories for a number of different...

'Rogue One' Buzz: The Deleted Opening Crawl, the Influence of 'WarGames' and 'Aliens' and More

Posted: 03 Jan 2017 06:00 PM PST

With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story still dominating the box office into the new year, passing the $800 million mark worldwide, we're still in the mood to talk about it. And fortunately there's more to talk about, thanks to some revelatory new interviews with director Gareth Edwards (from Empire) and editors John Gilroy and Colin Goudie (from Yahoo). Here are the most interesting things we learned: SPOILERS!!!   Why wasn't there an opening crawl or transition wipes like the other Star Wars movies have? Edwards says the original script by Gary Whitta did have a crawl. The decision not to have it came six months before shooting began because it's not part of the Saga. "If I'm honest, there was an initial kind of like...
