When it came to naming the sequel to Clerks., Kevin Smith ultimately took the easy path and simply decided to call it Clerks II. As such, when it was revealed that Smith was working on a sequel to Mallrats, there was a very strong possibility that the final title would simply be Mallrats 2. Evidently that won't be the case.
