Your Top Three: Movies That Every Graduate Must See

Posted: 23 Jun 2014 08:00 PM PDT

Your Top Three is a series here at Movies.com where we choose a topic and you give us your top three picks. Another school year is over, and another class of students is walking the field in cap and gown. Depending on where you live, the diplomas may already be in hand a month already. So, there's no time to waste. These young men and women need advice as they hit the real world, and as always there's no better source for such guidance as the movies.  The most obvious title might seem to be The Graduate, but that's almost 50 years old. In some ways it's timeless, but it certainly doesn't reflect the world today, at least not for most people. Even Reality Bites feels so dated now after only 20 years. Really, it's probably best to look at some very...

Could 'Frozen''s Success Lead to a Pixar Musical?

Posted: 23 Jun 2014 06:00 PM PDT

Less than a year after it became this cultural phenomenon, we're still not sure what effect Frozen will have on Disney's future movie landscape. What we do know is that it was a dynamo, and that months after release--and even weeks after the DVD and Blu-ray arrived--Frozen toys are still sold out, and your kids are still listening to the music on a loop. It's kind of insane. We also know that Walt Disney Animation (the folks behind Frozen) aren't giving us another musical this year. Instead it will be the superhero-themed Big Hero 6, followed by Zootopia and Giants in 2016, and then Moana in 2018. While we're not sure how much "song" will be in the latter three, we're guessing the female-led Moana will be more musical friendly than the others...

Hey Graduates, Watch Jim Carrey's Inspirational Commencement Speech

Posted: 23 Jun 2014 04:30 PM PDT

image via the Maharishi University of Management If you are one of the many fine, young learners graduating from an educational institution this month, then you're probably going to need a little bit of advice. Okay, you're going to need all of the advice. While your future is full of all kinds of uncertainty, the best part about being a fresh graduate is that you have this huge, blank canvas in front of you with which to paint your hopes and dreams.  Alright, maybe that doesn't help much--but this might! As is customary, various celebrities are called upon to give inspiring commencement speeches this time of year, and one of our favorites of 2014 is this one from Jim Carrey, who spread his words of wisdom upon the graduating class at the Maharishi...

Where to See Robert Englund Become Freddy Krueger One Last Time

Posted: 23 Jun 2014 03:00 PM PDT

If years of watching horror movies has taught us anything, it’s that you never take the word “final” literally. Studios and filmmakers have often insisted that various movies or events were the “last” in a series – e.g. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter – only to return to the well again when they realize there’s more money to be made. Freddy Krueger is all too familiar with this maxim. Freddy had his own “final” chapter back in 1991 with Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare – except that it wasn’t. Krueger came back for several more appearances, with fan-favorite Robert Englund donning the iconic bladed glove. However, it’s been over a decade since Englund last got into full Freddy regalia...

Superhero News: Wonder Woman, 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and the Future of Marvel Movies

Posted: 23 Jun 2014 01:30 PM PDT

You love superheroes, we love superheroes – so what better way to kick off a new week than with a bunch of new superhero news! We start things off with the latest from Warner Bros.' hotly anticipated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Our friends at JoBlo have uncovered some interesting facts about the Wonder Woman costume that will be used in the film. Early reports indicated a reimagined outfit for Gal Godot, but the source says that was inaccurate. The actress will allegedly don a costume ripped from the pages of the comic book, complete with blue skirt, red bustier, golden crown, and elaborate wrist guards. Phew… this means fanboys can hopefully now put down their pitchforks. Check the video for the full details and some more potential spoilers about...

You've Probably Never Watched This Rare Documentary on Tim Burton's 'Batman'

Posted: 23 Jun 2014 12:00 PM PDT

It’s hard to believe, but there was once a time when superhero movies weren’t a staple genre in Hollywood. Back in 1989, Warner Bros. gave Tim Burton a bunch of money to make Batman – and 25 years ago today that film opened in theaters, kickstarting a whole new generation of superhero movies while also revolutionizing the ways those films are marketed to the public.  This nearly 30-minute British documentary on the original Batman is really interesting from a historical standpoint. It’s funny to watch people like Michael Keaton and Kim Basinger talk about Batman and superhero movies like they’re this amazing new concept that's going to wow the world since we now spend countless hours a day talking about upwards of 15 different comic...

Sylvester Stallone May Make One More 'Rambo' Inspired by 'No Country for Old Men'

Posted: 23 Jun 2014 10:30 AM PDT

Like most movie franchises these days, the Rambo series is regularly brought up with regards to the chance of another installment. In the six years since the release of part four, simply titled Rambo, we've been teased about a fifth a number of times, with alternating reports that it'll never happen. The latest news is on the positive side. According to the German site Splended Film (via ComingSoon.net, which provided the translation), Sylvester Stallone has a script for Rambo V, which involves the title character going up against a Mexican drug cartel, and he's said to think of it as his version of No Country for Old Men. Avi Lerner, who produced the last movie and is developing an unrelated Rambo TV series, is also on board. This isn't the first time we've...

Movie News: Daniel Radcliffe Wants to Play Robin with Ben Affleck's Batman

Posted: 23 Jun 2014 09:00 AM PDT

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: Asked if he would consider starring in another franchise, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe said: "Yes. … Batman. ... With Ben Affleck, I could be Robin. I'm perfect." The actor was answering a series of rapid-fire questions on the spur of the moment, so we take this with a huge dollop of salt, but, really, wouldn't it be fun to see Harry Potter running around in a cape and mask as the Boy Wonder?! [Buzzfeed]   The Drop Trailer: A tense new international trailer for The Drop revolves around mob money, a Boston bar, hard guys and a dog. Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace and James Gandolfini star; the thriller opens in U.S. theaters on September 12. [Fox Searchlight UK]   Thelma and Louise: An iconic...
