The Best of 2014: What Is Your Favorite Movie Moment of the Year?

Posted: 29 Dec 2014 10:00 PM PST

Maybe Guardians of the Galaxy isn't your favorite movie of the year, or even in your top 10. You still have to admit that you smiled when Groot danced to "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5. The scene isn't just great because of the alien tree creature's moves, though. It's the combination of that and Drax all serious and polishing his blade in the background and his response to what he sees out of the corner of his eye. There's no denying that it's one of the most memorable movie moments of the year. While movies are more than just a serious of moments, there are definitely some standout scenes and lines that helped us to enjoy their respective features overall. Interstellar may have its problems, but it sure is stunning at many turns...

Comics on Film: The State of the Superhero Movie in 2014

Posted: 29 Dec 2014 08:00 PM PST

Comic book cinema definitely cemented its dominance in a big way in 2014. From the powerhouse Marvel Studios films (Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy) to the fundamental revival of the first modern major comic book franchise (X-Men: Days of Future Past), to the return of Spider-Man and the Ninja Turtles, we saw a lot of pretty crazy, heartbreaking, awesome and mind-blowing things at the theater this year with comics characters at the forefront. Any honest comic book fan can look at the movies this year and say that they weren't all good. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the least well reviewed of the series. Dwayne Johnson as Hercules didn't exactly set people on fire. Depending on who you talk to...

Watch: A Remake of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' Starring an Adorable Puppy As Indiana Jones

Posted: 29 Dec 2014 04:00 PM PST

Get ready for cute overload, because this fan-made re-creation of Raiders of the Lost Ark featuring a boxer puppy is so adorably sweet that you’ll probably get cavities just from watching it. The project, which was produced and directed by Zach King and Jadon Gauthier, is five minutes long and comes complete with groan-inducing title Raiders of the Lost Bark. Star Indiana Bones takes viewers on a swashbuckling adventure that re-creates some of Spielberg’s film’s most iconic moments while making your heart melt in the process. Interestingly enough, the idea of a dog in Raiders isn’t all that much of a stretch. Lucas’ Alaskan Malamute (named Indiana) was not only responsible for Harrison Ford’s character name in the film (and was even a joke in...

Watch: A Beautiful Montage of the Best Cinematography in 2014 Movies

Posted: 29 Dec 2014 02:00 PM PST

Directors may get all the glory when it comes to making movies, but cinematographers are the ones who can make or break a production in terms of its visual appearance. A good cinematographer can make a new director look like a genius. A bad cinematographer could make a legendary filmmaker look like Uwe Boll. After toiling in relative anonymity for years, these masters of the visual arts are finally starting to get recognition from even casual film fans. It's about time.  This year has seen some really beautiful images in films -- from the stunning space vistas of Christopher Nolan's Interstellar, to the more grounded-in-reality images of Foxcatcher. Vimeo user Jacob T. Swinney has selected some of the most amazing moments from the past year's worth of...

Movie News: Bryan Singer Reminds Fans About 'X-Men: Apocalypse' (Photo); Watch Jackie Chan, John Cusack and Adrien Brody in 'Dragon Blade' Trailer

Posted: 29 Dec 2014 12:00 PM PST

X-Men: Apocalypse: Director Bryan Singer shared a photo via social media that immediately got fans talking about his next movie, X-Men: Apocalypse. It's not due in theaters until May 27, 2016, but Singer has been busy casting; the photo is a reminder that the movie, set in the 1980s, features a villain with Egyptian origins. [Instagram via Latino Review]   Exodus: Gods and Kings: Ridley Scott's latest epic, Exodus: Gods and Kings, has done nicely at the box office overseas, taking in nearly $100 million so far, but it won't earn any money from three Middle Eastern countries (Egypt, Morocco and United Arab Emirates) where it has recently been banned. Egypt objected to the movie's "historical inaccuracies," including the depiction of the parting...
