In Honor of Dancing Baby Groot: 5 Movie-Inspired Toys We Wish Were Real

Posted: 13 Oct 2014 11:00 PM PDT

Remember when you wanted a toy line based on your favorite movie as a kid, yet there was none to be found? Now it seems that fans just have to make a fuss on the Internet in order to get their dream action figures and other items based on the movies. Marvel's production of an official Dancing Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy is one testament to that. Of course, nowadays we also occasionally get stuff based on old favorites, such as in the case of ReAction's toys for Escape from New York, The Goonies, Back to the Future and more. Those can be found in stores. There are also many other retro figures that are custom made and not so easily purchased. Outside of a comic convention, that is. Here are five specific toys we'd like to see made in retrospect from some...

Marvel Studios Countdown: Will Captain America Face a Civil War or His Own Death?

Posted: 13 Oct 2014 10:00 PM PDT

The third Captain America film is Marvel’s big one for summer 2016, and fans are already looking ahead to what’s in store for what could be the end of a trilogy. It’s likely Joe and Anthony Russo (of The Winter Soldier) are back to direct, and they’ve been dropping hints in interviews that the film is something Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has been looking forward to since the very inception of the cinematic Marvel universe. Joe Russo told Crave Online, “If you’ve been talking to Kevin the title has been in place probably for 10 years in his brain. It’s all part of the road map that he’s laid out, and it’s all part of the bigger plan.” Some think Feige is planning for the third film to be Captain America: Civil...

Watch: The Farrelly Brothers Bow Down to Bill Murray on the 'Kingpin' Set

Posted: 13 Oct 2014 08:30 PM PDT

We've been covering Bill Murray a few times so far this month at Movies.com, and we'd apologize, except that it's Bill Murray we're talking about. Can anyone really ever have too much Bill Murray in their life?  And with that in mind, it's our special pleasure to be able to bring you this exclusive clip from the new Blu-ray of the always hilarious Farrelly brothers' bowling comedy Kingpin (out on October 14, 2014). The Blu-ray features a host of newly filmed interviews with the the directors reminiscing about the making of this cable classic, which of course includes the inevitable topic of Murray's sleazy bowling champion, Ernie McCracken. As it turns out, for as funny as the Farrelly brothers can be, even they have to admit that Murray is a...

8 Great... Seafaring Movie Explorers in Honor of Columbus Day

Posted: 13 Oct 2014 07:29 PM PDT

As we celebrate Columbus Day, our movie-loving thoughts naturally turn to the great seafaring explorers of the past, those intrepid adventurers who courageously sallied forth across boundless bodies of water, hoping to discover new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one had gone before… long before Captain Kirk uttered those words aboard the Starship Enterprise. Christopher Columbus was honored in the United States as far back as 1792, when the 300th anniversary of his landing was celebrated in New York City and beyond. In recent years, protestors have raised questions about whether Columbus is worthy of being honored, especially in view of the devastating effect that colonization had upon indigenous peoples. Thus, it seems appropriate to start with a film that...

Here's What It Will Take for Pixar to Make Its First Full-Length Musical

Posted: 13 Oct 2014 07:00 PM PDT

When Pixar’s Inside Out arrives in theaters on June 19, 2015, it will be preceded by another of the company’s memorable short films. This time it’s Lava, directed by longtime Pixar animator James Murphy, and it follows the story of a lonely volcano searching for love. Lava also has the benefit of being something Pixar has never attempted before: its first musical. Considering the wild success of Disney Animation's Frozen, it may not be long before Pixar produces a full-length musical of its own. We asked Murphy about the chances of a full-on Pixar musical while he was promoting Lava during its recent festival run (the short will officially arrive in theaters everywhere next June), and whether his short film was Pixar testing those musical waters...

Why You Need to Listen to Bill Murray's 'Howard Stern' Interview

Posted: 13 Oct 2014 05:45 PM PDT

There's always room for Bill Murray. And since he's making the promotional rounds for St. Vincent—in which he stars as a troubled war vet whose heart is warmed after making pals with the boy next door—there's enough Murray to keep us warm all winter. The actor appeared on The Howard Stern Show, where he talked about his time on Saturday Night Live (he praises Bill Hader, saying he "probably did the best work anybody ever did on that show") and discusses the early days of his career. One little anecdote caught our attention, involving the late, great film critic Roger Ebert. Apparently, Roger wasn’t a big Murray fan in the early days of the actor’s career. Historically, Saturday Night Live stars seem to face tougher...

Flashback: Check Out Rare Concept Art from Tim Burton's Canceled 'Batman 3'

Posted: 13 Oct 2014 03:45 PM PDT

After Batman Returns hit theaters back in 1992, director Tim Burton started working on ideas for a third film featuring the Dark Knight. This new entry was set to see the arrival of Robin (to be played by Marlon Wayans), but a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff went down (Warner Bros. felt Batman Returns was too dark for families and not a good film for selling toys – and Burton’s third film was going to be even darker, apparently) and the director eventually exited the project. Joel Schumacher came in to replace him, and the results were Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. However, there are bits and pieces of things designed for Burton’s unmade film floating around on the Internet – including this piece of concept art for the costume Wayans would have worn...

Watch: 'The Group Hopper,' a New YA Movie Based on a 'Hunger Games' Trailer Comment Thread

Posted: 13 Oct 2014 02:30 PM PDT

Between the popularity of films like Divergent, The Maze Runner, The Hunger Games and so many more, it feels like we're most definitely living in the age of the YA movie. So when you have a whole lot of something scoring big numbers on the big screen, the only logical thing to do is... well, make fun of it, right? That's exactly what Saturday Night Live is doing with this hilarious fake trailer for a new YA movie called The Group Hopper, based on a comment left in the comment thread for a Hunger Games trailer. SNL vet (and host) Bill Hader plays an Effie Trinket-looking villain who barks commands at a group of postapocalyptic disillusioned teens searching for a way out of... something very familiar for those who've watched a YA film or two in their day. Watch the...

This 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Star May Be James Bond's New Nemesis

Posted: 13 Oct 2014 01:15 PM PDT

Bond 24 is set to start filming this December, and while we all know that Daniel Craig is returning as 007 -- and that he'll be joined by new Bond girl Léa Seydoux -- we still don't know who he'll be squaring off against this time around. Or do we? Latino Review has revealed that professional wrestler Dave Bautista – better known as Drax the Destroyer in James Gunn’s box office juggernaut Guardians of the Galaxy – has landed the role of evil henchman Hinx in the upcoming Bond film. This is good news on a number of levels. Bautista demonstrated he was worthy of landing more roles after Guardians, and he was the first person who sprung to mind when Hinx’s casting info leaked last month. That casting call revealed that Bond 24 was looking...

Posted: 13 Oct 2014 12:00 PM PDT

Lego Batman: Almost as soon as The Lego Movie became a smash hit earlier this year, we heard about a spin-off coming in 2016 (Ninjago), plus two sequels set for 2017 and 2018. Now comes word that another Lego spin-off movie, this one featuring Batman (and the voice of Will Arnett), is being fast-tracked, aimed for release in 2017, with the sequels getting bumped back. Chris McKay, slated to direct the first sequel, will instead helm the Batman spin-off, based on a script by Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows). [Heat Vision]   Guardians of the Galaxy: The characters featured in this summer's live-action blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy were born in the pages of Marvel comic books, and next year they'll move on to yet another medium, as the stars of their own...
