Cops and Demons: Looking at the Movie Battles Between Police and the Unholy Posted: 04 Jul 2014 07:00 PM PDT More than anything, police officers represent order. At their core, they are human justice, powered by logic and reason and science. They're investigators, soldiers and, on occasion, psychologists. The best cops are brave, intelligent and know when to negotiate and when to pull their weapon. They are instruments of modern civilization. And that's why they tend to die so quickly in horror movies. The horror genre is all about tearing its characters away from any kind of safety nets, tearing down worlds both personal and literal. When the cops show up in the third act of a slasher movie, they don't save the day -- they get a sudden axe to the back of the head and the survivors find themselves, once again, out of options and feeling for their lives. In most... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

The Best Movie Trailers of the Week Posted: 04 Jul 2014 01:30 PM PDT Welcome back to Best Movie Trailers of the Week, a column where we handpick the best new movie trailers that have arrived online over the past week. Posted: 04 Jul 2014 12:00 PM PDT It may always go down as one of the sillier summer blockbusters, but when Independence Day landed in theaters back in 1996 over the July Fourth holiday weekend, it felt like one of the biggest movies ever. That speech will always go down as one of the greatest ever (as far as summer blockbusters go), but would it work outside the film all these years later? Back in 2011, comedian Sean Kleier decided to find out by taking a megaphone to the streets of New... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |

[Moviefone] Unbroken: Louis Zamperini, whose life story serves as inspiration for Angelina Jolie's upcoming Unbroken, has died at the age of 97. Zamperini competed in the 1936 Olympics, and later served in World War II, during which he was shot down over the Pacific Ocean, survived 47 days in a life raft, and then endured a harsh imprisonment by the Japanese military for two years. Jack O'Connell will play him in Jolie's movie, which will open in theaters on... Read More This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
